2K Test
What is 2K Test?
The 2K erg test is the gold standard of indoor rowing performance. It takes most trained rowers 6-8 minutes to complete, requiring a brutal combination of aerobic and anaerobic capacity. Nearly every rowing program worldwide uses the 2K time as the primary selection metric. The test demands careful pacing strategy — going out too fast leads to catastrophic slowdown, while being too conservative leaves time on the table. Most coaches recommend a negative or even split strategy, starting at target pace and building through the second 1000m. The 2K test is physiologically one of the most demanding tests in sport, with athletes reaching 95-100% of their VO2 max and maximum heart rate.
How Watta Uses 2K Test
Watta automatically detects 2K tests from your erg screen data and gives them the highest workout type weight in the legacy effort score calculation. Your 2K times are tracked as personal bests and used to contextualize your training paces across all sessions.
